Lovely electronic psych. Starts out super upbeat and highly energetic (first two tracks: Figment, Clouded) but progresses into a more brooding, contemplative mode (the closers: The Never, Softly Breathes). The sound of the synths and the fact that this was all recorded live give this album a warmly retro sound. The vocals sound distant, almost cavernous. I can definitely hear a lot of 90s influences (think of Loop or Spacemen 3), as well as late 70s British post punk. Maybe on a more recent note they would sound close to some of the work that IDLES have done? The beats definitely harken back to the work of Can and Neu, and if you’ve read this blog before you’ll already know my love affair with those two bands.
MELTS is a four piece based in Dublin, Ireland. This is is their second album and I must say it’s a must listen for all fans of the genre. Another excellent release by Fuzz Club. Two thumbs up!
